We left Lewis and Clark this morning around 9:00 to backtrack to where the R had to get gas yesterday before moving forward. The weather has been off and on rainy, winds are still high. The daily incident today was the R noticing that one of our compartment doors was flapping in the breeze. Fortunately we didn't lose anything cuz it was the one with the electric line as well as the hose pipe. We have also had several serial days of cabinets inside the HH opening along the way despite being tied down with bungee cords, so as I am pretty much the indoor person, I am greeted by whatever flies out whe. We reach our destination.
Both of us, I think, expected to see more mountains once we got to Montana. Not so. The land has been flat and only after about 5 hours of driving did we start to see some "mountains". We moved from oil wells, oil worker "homes" (close to being shacks), oil rigs etc to a retur. To,agriculture. What struck me was the vastness of the fields. Far more than in ND. I read the average farm is over 2000 acres. We did not see ANY buildings or ranches that we could assume we're owners of the acreage. Miles and. miles and miles before we entered a reservation area and the views again changed (Wolf Point). These areas are sad. The governmental buildings are kept up and look modern, while the housing and surroundings are dilapidated. Lots of "junkie" stuff all, over yards. The town are filled with casinos which are not as we know them to look like. These are shops around the size of a 7-11, again, not well maintained. There is little evidence of grocery stores, medical clinics, schools or the like. In Malta, the next town over we counted 7 Casinos and 1 Pawn Shop. Outside these towns are the lush fields and harvested hay rolled into bales. Cattle farms started to pop up pop up here and there. There seemed more often than not any fencing to keep the cattle in, but the fields were so expansive, I guess they never got too curious to cross the road.
We were going to stay in hinook which was a good distance from Louis n Clark, it when I started to explore sleeping/RV sites, there was a very poor selection. Most with no water and only vault toilets. Nope! I checked Havre too and the same, so the R drove another 100 miles before we found this place. OK! This place. The only decent sounding place in Shelby is an area in the back of a Best Western on the edge of town. It boasts full hook up and showers, real fast for 6.00 and laundry facilities. It also has the equivalent of a mini Meijer right next door! Hot da,n. It has no trees, cement benches
