Day 3. Porcupines to Duluth area
Photos below are from Seney Refuge. Just figgered out how to get photos over to the blog. If you wonder why I have a picture of a tree, it is the Osprey nest. I later learned you can use your iPhone up to binocs to get a clearer view. Oh well. Next set should be from the Porcupines. I took pics of the cute couples' digs. They came minimally equipped which is pretty wonderful. We got them wood and gave them our remains this morning. Kinda made them feel bad cuz they had wood from Madison and I shamed them into not using it. They ate baked potatoes for dinner, forgot plates, utensils and beverage cups. This morning we shared our coffee with them. Gotta love them. Check out their tiny tent!
Had a real challenge this morning getting the hook up done. We were on a slight hill tapering to the lake and could NOT line up the ball thing. We were off about 1/4 ", then about an 1/8" but could not get the ball to drop in the socket. The Rooster finally tried something too dangerous to describe, saying to me, "just stay way out of the way Jane!". It worked but I had vivid visions of the Hen House rolling down the hill, tipping over and charging into trees before it landed in the water. With all the click click clicks, doors opening and closing, truck starting and stopping, I think we woke the whole park up. The well seasoned campers were probably wondering what idiots we were..
The day is beautiful, it we were again swarmed by black flies despite spraying our bodies and clothes with toxins. Glad to be away from that. It certainly detracts from being close to Lake Superior which has been our experience both in June and July.
Leaving I was struck by the beautiful pink and purple Lupines that lined the road for quite a distance before we got back to US 2 as well as the beauty of the greenery and clear skies. We caught US 2 in the vicinity that Chris Holdwick says are her roots. Must find out more about that. I thought she was a legitimate AA townie. Lake Gogebic is apparently the largest inland lake in Michigan which fronted us before turning onto US 2.
Consistent with my vehicular narcolepsy, I dozed off and on while The Rooster listened intently to his murder mystery podcasts. He is trying to catch up and we are now up to March, so still quite a few more to get through before we shift to another of his caves about really old murders. Should I worry? Maybe he is plotting his revenge.......
Susan and Cora seemed to have had a good time at Camp Newago before making their way to TC for Chris's cousins' wedding. I do t know how they do it, but they do clean up nicely. There is a funny video of Topher dancing on FB that made me laugh. I haven't seen all,the photos she posted yet though.
Arriving in Mn after a change in time zones when we got into Wisconsin, my Fit Bit is utterly confused. I can't fix it or do mini surgery cuz it requires a lap top which I don't have with me. Note to self: skip the Fit Bit and stick with the Garmin that doesn't require this level of attention. I did think about bringing it laptop) but who needs a phone, iPad and lap top anyway?
Duluth, while quite clean looking considering the amount of lake industry stuck me. I had no idea. We passed huge areas of shipping, cement piles and railways. Before we crossed into Duluth, there is Superior which is quite charming and does not seem to be as boisterous. Wanting to get outta Dodge, we looked into the first place on Tony's list to stay, but quickly rejected it and moved along to the next place. This place is amazing and makes me smile. On the outskirts of Duluth we decided on Buffalo someone's accommodations which for 45.00 comes with full hook up including sewer, a restaurant, bar, WiFi, softball courts, 2 volley ball courts and 2 horseshoe courts(?), a place to hold parties or weddings, I suppose, and a walking and bike trail! Well my oh my! Oh and the best thing is it is a pull through so we didn't have to wrestle backing into a spot with cars across and on either side of us. I just might watch horseshoes and volleyball tonight as well as a hot date at the bar which is right across from us!
The Rooster has finally settle down after his outside work setting up. I did a bit of house cleaning. Sitting outside in the shade, he thinks it is 5:00 and is quenching his thirst with a Corona. I'm gonna knit a bit and update you all on the evenings excitement later on.
