Day 2

Day 2.  Early morning start to be sure we had time In The Porcupines.  The day started out with nice weather but deteriorated as we approached our destination.  Set up in the rain amidst black flies.  Ugh!  Spayed ourselves as we filled the Hen House tank with water.  Then I decided to attack the problem with real chemical warfare.  Forget the hand spray/squirt of Deep Woods, now is the time for the aerosols.  Much better.    Note to self.  Aerosol is the way to go.  Then left to explore our surroundings.  We needed gas and ice .  The latter to be secured later on.  But the gas situation was interesting.  We drove 30 miles to find it!  Then  The Rooster drove 30 miles or so in the Porcupines  while I slept off and on looking for the Lake in the Clouds.  It is amazing how huge this area is.  We found it after stopping in at one of the, what I would call Guide Stations, manned by people who know there stuff.  BTW wh En we were at Seney, there was a couple who, sold, their home 5 years ago  and purchased an RV and now volunteer at various parks year round.  Anyway, after looking around at all the dead stuffed species and freaking out about bears in our camping area, we did find what we were looking for.  If I can download the pics, I will. But am a learner.  I have photos on y phone which do t seem to transfer to my iPad and photos on mymIPadmthatmwont download.  True beauty. Birds and frogs in the background of lusciously green surroundings viewed from up high with a river and a bridge for real hikers.

Back at the ranch and after securing wood for a fire and ice, we met our new neighbors.  A young unmarried coup,e from Wisconsin.  Both graduates. She is waiting to go into the PA a program and he will go to Ghana for 3 years with the Peace Corps before Medical School.  First choice is University of Washington!  Then UofM.  Really lovely young couple who arrived with a one person tent.  But you know, young love!  We gave them plates utensils and cups as well as a couple of  bundles of wood.  Our fire was better tha theirs so they cooked their potatoes on our fire, apologetically.  The view is pretty soectacularmfrom our site and we walked around and down to the water edging our way across slag.  Lucy was not impressed and wondered where the sand was.  She barked at the waves,  and did little else.  Tom and Carla took a liking to Lucy.  Carla held her for the longest time and of course Lucy reveled in the attention.
It is 10:00 and the sky is orange!  Intermittent rain but not enough to snuff out the fire and the good smells that accompany it.  Tony is off to bed.  Past his bedtime.
Funny afterthought is that we kept crossing time lines as we searched for gas and the various parts of the Porcupines.  One minute we we were at 3:00 then at 4:00.  We got back in time for cocktail hour at 5:00 when we met our neighbors.  Gotta love campers who are so willing to help each other out.  This includes neighbors across from us and atom and Carla's neighbors on their other side.
We have come to appreciate the different configurations of campers and I personally have complied a list of what I would like IF we were to upgrade.  The of course, if we can tolerate each other in these quarters for 6 weeks, what would be the point? OH, winter in the south would be the point.
So,tomorrow off to Duluth.  The weather is not worth staying another day.  We will bank that for Glacier.
