Day 1 cont'd

Back to Seney about Olga and Olaf the Ospreys.  This was definitely the highlight.  At the Visitor Center there was an amazing telescope aimed at Olga and Olaf in the nest.  The babes are due to hatch any day, but no one know exactly when because once it was found, they had no idea how long it had been there or when the nesting began.  They do know that it will be any day now or that they may have hatched already.  Incubation is 28 days.  Olga and Olaf share in the nesting duties.  No little heads have popped up yet, but you would not believe how large the nest is and how high up and unprotected it is.  Really cool.
Now, Bucky Beaver and his rowdy friends need to be called out on their hooligan behavior.  All along the path there was evidence of them chewing away at trees.  Some they moved, but most were just chewed and left to fend for themselves after being brutalized.  Maybe they sharpen their teeth this way, oh but such a waste.  I was tempted to check out a dome we saw, but was called to,order by the Rooster who pointed out that they were not friendly, did not roll onto, their backs to have their tummy rubbed and would likely take a chunk out of my leg!  Settle down Jane, settle down.
Along the trail we rode first we came upon  Mr and Mrs Gander with their pretty newborn chicklets blocking the road.  Mama must have screeched to get out of,our way because they all scampered across with their little wings outstretched and flailing.  We laughed they were  really cute.  We came across two other groups each with their fledglings but they were older and not quite as interesting.
With our binocs in hand, I especially wanted to see birds.  Aside from the Ospreys that we found on our own. It was a failure.  I could hear them, but never saw a one.
And the lack of morels.....well that is another long story.  We did have mushrooms for dinner, but not the big huge tumor sized ones we did find.

We were on the road early, stopped of at Mickey Ds for coffee and crap before heading home.  I do like Wisconsin.  It is a wonderfully beaut...
